Abstract
The Lateral Locking Module (LTM) is a device designed to support the bending and shear loads of the rigid riser termination, preventing fatigue, wear, and internal shock to the support pipe. The LTM is activated remotely from the production unit during the final pull in stage, without the need for diving, or directly from a ROV. The LTM also allows for lateral unlocking of the riser without diving.
Claims3
A lateral locking module (LTM) for rigid risers, comprising:
- a fixed external locking subassembly comprising:
- a locking ring, a mounting plate, set screws, a load ring sleeve, and segment locking means;
- an internal movable drive subassembly comprising:
- an actuating screw, mandrel, cage, retaining nut, sliding sleeve, spring housing, spring housing cover, grooved spring discs and a piston;
- and
- a fixed hydraulic cylinder subassembly comprising:
- an outer sleeve, mounting plate mounting screws, an inner cover, and an outer cover,
- wherein actuation of the actuating screw moves the cage in an axial direction away from the sliding sleeve, and wherein when the cage is urged by the actuating screw against a stop (HOA), the LTM transitions to a locked configuration.
