Reinforced Thermoplastic Composite from Airborne Yarn Waste and Cotton Waste Dust.

Abstract

The present invention relates to a blended composition and method for forming the blended composition. The blended composition is configured for injection molding into a product. The composition comprises airborne yarn waste and/or cotton waste dust (waste/dust) in a plug form, a bonding agent, and a thermoplastic polymer. The composition creates a reinforced composite material through the compounding of the waste/dust with the thermoplastic polymer and bonding agent. The method for forming the blended composition involves several steps: collecting the waste/dust, introducing the waste/dust into a vented twin-screw extruder, blending with the thermoplastic polymer and bonding agent, and heating the thermoplastic polymer to a temperature that sufficiently softens or melts the polymer.
