Abstract
An image forming apparatus includes an applicator, a discharger, and processing circuitry. The applicator applies a pretreatment liquid to a fabric. The discharger discharges an ink onto the fabric. The processing circuitry controls operations of the applicator and the discharger. The processing circuitry causes the applicator to apply the pretreatment liquid and causes the discharger to discharge a white ink to form at least two base layers including the pretreatment liquid and the white ink.

An image forming apparatus, comprising:
- an applicator to apply a pretreatment liquid to a fabric;
- a discharger to discharge an ink onto the fabric;
- and
- processing circuitry configured to cause the applicator to apply the pretreatment liquid and cause the discharger to discharge a white ink to form at least two base layers including the pretreatment liquid and the white ink.

A method of forming an image on a fabric, the method comprising:
- applying a pretreatment liquid to the fabric;
- discharging a white ink to the fabric, after the applying of the pretreatment liquid, to form a white ink layer;
- and
- discharging a non-white ink, after repeating the applying of the pretreatment liquid and the forming of the white ink two or more times, to form the image on the fabric.
