The present disclosure relates generally to carbon dioxide capture systems and methods, and more particularly to direct air capture systems and methods that combine adsorption, membrane separation, and distillation technologies to capture and purify carbon dioxide from ambient air. A direct air capture system includes a first separation stage configured to receive an air stream containing carbon dioxide and to produce a first enriched stream having a higher carbon dioxide concentration than the air stream. The direct air capture system includes a second separation stage configured to receive the first enriched stream and to produce a second enriched stream having a higher carbon dioxide concentration than the first enriched stream. The first separation stage and the second separation stage employ different separation technologies selected from the group consisting of adsorption, membrane separation, and distillation.
