Abstract
A portable insulin pump can utilize readings from a sensor incorporated into an infusion set used with the pump to deliver insulin to a patient to determine if the infusion set is or is likely to become dislodged from the patient. Readings from the sensor that are inconsistent with expected readings or a range of expected readings can indicate that the infusion set has become dislodged from the patient.
Claims20
A method of providing diabetes therapy to a patient with a portable infusion pump, comprising:
- delivering medicament to a patient with the portable infusion pump through an infusion set including infusion tubing extending from the portable infusion pump and a cannula inserted into the patient to deliver the medicament to the patient through the cannula;
- monitoring glucose levels of the patient with data obtained by a glucose sensor while the medicament is delivered to the patient;
- determining that the monitored glucose levels are above a high glucose threshold;
- and
- providing instructions to the patient to check the infusion set in response to the determination that the monitored glucose levels are above a high glucose threshold.
2 more elements
A portable infusion pump system, comprising:
- a reservoir configured to contain a medicament;
- a delivery mechanism configured to deliver the medicament to a patient through an infusion set including infusion tubing extending to the patient and a cannula inserted into the patient;
- a user interface adapted to display operating information and to receive input data from the patient;
- a receiver adapted to receive data relating to glucose levels of the patient obtained by a glucose sensor;
- and
- at least one processor configured to:
- cause the delivery mechanism to deliver the medicament to the patient through the infusion set;
- monitor glucose levels of the patient based on the data relating to glucose levels obtained by the glucose sensor;
- determine that the monitored glucose levels are above a high glucose threshold;
- and
- provide instructions to the patient to check the infusion set in response to the determination that the monitored glucose levels are above a high glucose threshold.
