Abstract
A catheter includes a shaft including a proximal end and a distal end, an electrical conductor coupled to the catheter, and an electrode coupled to the electrical conductor. The electrode includes at least one recessed portion, and an impedance reduction layer disposed in the at least one recessed portion. The impedance reduction layer has a thickness less than a depth of the recessed portion.
Claims18
A catheter comprising:
- a shaft including a proximal end and a distal end;
- an electrical conductor;
- a substrate comprising an electrode disposed on a top surface of the substrate and coupled to the electrical conductor, the electrode comprising an impedance reduction layer, and
- a protective layer disposed above the top surface of the substrate and having an opening exposing at least part of the electrode, the protective layer being thicker than the electrode.

A catheter comprising:
- a shaft including a proximal end and a distal end;
- and
- a flexible circuit comprising:
- a flexible substrate;
- an electrode disposed on a top surface of the substrate, the electrode having a first thickness;
- an impedance reduction layer disposed on a top surface of the electrode, the impedance reduction layer having a second thickness;
- and
- a mask disposed on the top surface of the substrate and defining an opening through which at least a portion of the electrode is exposed, the mask having a third thickness.

A method of manufacturing a flexible circuit for a catheter, comprising:
- providing a substrate;
- forming an electrode on a top surface of the substrate;
- forming a mask on the top surface of the substrate, the mask defining an opening through which a portion of the electrode is opposed;
- and
- forming an impedance reduction layer on at least a portion of the portion of the electrode that is exposed through the opening defined by the mask,
- wherein a thickness of the mask is greater than a combination of a thickness of the electrode and a thickness of the impedance reduction layer.
