Surface cleaner

A hand vacuum cleaner having a front end, a rear end, an upper end, a lower end and a hand vacuum cleaner axis extending centrally through the hand vacuum cleaner from the front end to the rear end, the hand vacuum cleaner comprising:

• an air flow path extending from a dirty air inlet, which is located at the front end of the hand vacuum cleaner, to a clean air outlet;
• an air treatment assembly comprising an air treatment chamber provided in the air flow path, the air treatment chamber comprising a front end, a rear end, an air treatment chamber air inlet and an air treatment chamber air outlet;
• a motor and fan assembly provided in the air flow path, the motor and fan assembly having a motor axis of rotation;
• and,
• a handle, which during use of the hand vacuum cleaner, is useable to direct the hand vacuum cleaner to clean a surface, the handle comprises an upper end that is provided on the upper end of the hand vacuum cleaner, a lower end provided on a lower end of the hand vacuum cleaner and an arcuate portion positioned between the upper and lower ends of the handle wherein, in operation, the handle comprises a portion of the air flow path whereby air passes through the handle,
• wherein, when the hand vacuum cleaner is oriented with the hand vacuum cleaner axis extending horizontally and the dirty air inlet at the upper end of the hand vacuum cleaner, the motor and fan assembly is provided at a lower end of the hand vacuum cleaner.
