An image processing section of a head-mounted display sets a control plane 350 corresponding to distribution of distances from a user 280 to real objects 354a and 354b in a virtual three-dimensional space. The control plane 350 is updated according to movement of the user 280. The image processing section decides a virtual distance ds of a superimposed image in the virtual three-dimensional space on the basis of a distance dc from the user 280 to a control plane in a line-of-sight direction, places the superimposed image in the virtual three-dimensional space, and then renders a view as seen from a virtual camera on a see-through image.
