Abstract
A method for managing a plurality of data flows associated with a network processing component in a data transmission system includes providing a plurality of traffic control units, each associated with a respective data flow of the plurality of data flows; dynamically adjusting a committed information rate (CIR) for the plurality of traffic control units; and controlling data rates of the plurality of data flows using the plurality of traffic control units with the adjusted CIR.

A method for managing a plurality of data flows associated with a network processing component in a data transmission system, the method comprising:
- providing a plurality of traffic control units, each associated with a respective data flow of the plurality of data flows;
- dynamically adjusting a committed information rate (CIR) for the plurality of traffic control units;
- and
- controlling data rates of the plurality of data flows using the plurality of traffic control units with the adjusted CIR.
A traffic management apparatus for managing a plurality of data flows associated with a network processing component in a data transmission system, the traffic management apparatus comprising:
- an adjustment circuit that dynamically adjusts a committed information rate (CIR) for a plurality of traffic control units, wherein each of the plurality of traffic control units is associated with a respective data flow of the plurality of data flows;
- and
- a rate control circuit that controls data rates of the plurality of data flows using the plurality of traffic control units with the adjusted CIR.
