A example method provided in this application includes: receiving first ephemeris information of a serving satellite sent by a network device, where the first ephemeris information includes first indication information, and the first indication information is used to indicate a threshold for an coverage edge footprint of the serving satellite; and determining, based on the first ephemeris information, whether to start obtaining other system information (OSI) broadcast by the network device at the coverage edge footprint, where the OSI is related to mobility management.

Dependent claims

A communication method performed by a terminal device or a chip configured in the terminal device, wherein the method comprises:

receiving first ephemeris information of a serving satellite sent by a network device, wherein the first ephemeris information comprises first indication information, and the first indication information is used to indicate a threshold for a coverage edge footprint of the serving satellite;
and
determining, based on the first ephemeris information, whether to start obtaining other system information (OSI) broadcast by the network device at the coverage edge footprint, wherein the OSI is related to mobility management.

An apparatus comprising:

at least one processor;
and
at least one memory storing instructions, wherein the instructions are executed by the at least one processor to cause the apparatus to:
receive first ephemeris information of a serving satellite sent by a network device, wherein the first ephemeris information comprises first indication information, and the first indication information is used to indicate a threshold for an coverage edge footprint of the serving satellite;
and
determine, based on the first ephemeris information, whether to start obtaining other system information (OSI) broadcast by the network device at the coverage edge footprint, wherein the OSI is related to mobility management.
