Abstract
A method of determining an adverse event within a patient having an implantable blood pump including calculating a plurality of power consumption trends of the blood pump during a plurality of time periods using a low-pass filter, determining a plurality of power trend differences between the plurality of power consumption trends, calculating a total amount of the plurality of power trend differences during a time interval, and generating an alarm when the total amount of the plurality of power trend differences exceeds a pre-determined threshold.
Claims20
A method of detecting an adverse event in a patient having an implantable blood pump, the method comprising:
- monitoring, by processing circuitry in communication with the implantable blood pump, an electrical operating parameter of a motor of the implantable blood pump over time to provide a plurality of measured operating values over a time interval;
- determining, by the processing circuitry in communication with the implantable blood pump, an expected operating value of the electrical operating parameter;
- comparing, by the processing circuitry in communication with the implantable blood pump, the plurality of measured operating values to the expected operating value to determine a trend between the expected operating value and the monitored electrical operating parameter over time;
- and
- generating, by the processing circuitry in communication with the implantable blood pump, an alarm when the trend deviates from the expected operating value by more than a threshold.
A method of detecting an adverse event in a patient having an implantable blood pump, the method comprising:
- filtering, by processing circuitry in communication with the implantable blood pump, at least one of a current, a voltage, a back electromotive force, or a power consumption of the implantable blood pump using a pair of low-pass filters having different cutoff frequencies to differentiate between short-term changes and long-term changes in the at least one of the current, the voltage, the back electromotive force, or the power consumption;
- and
- generating, by the processing circuitry, an alarm in response to a long-term change in the at least one of the current, the voltage, the back electromotive force, or the power consumption exceeding a predetermined threshold, wherein the alarm indicates an adverse event in the patient.
A method of detecting an adverse event in a patient having an implantable blood pump, the method comprising:
- determining, by processing circuitry in communication with the implantable blood pump, an expected power of the implantable blood pump for a selected rotational speed of the implantable blood pump;
- determining, by the processing circuitry, a speed-dependent threshold based on the expected power;
- determining, by the processing circuitry, a real-time pump power of the implantable blood pump while the implantable blood pump operates at the selected rotational speed;
- and
- generating, by the processing circuitry, an alarm in response to the real-time pump power deviating from the speed-dependent threshold, wherein the alarm indicates an adverse event in the patient.
