Abstract
An assembly is provided for adjustable-depth installation of a lighting device relative to a support structure. The assembly can include a centerplate with a plate opening. The assembly can further include an electrical box with an extendable sleeve and an electrical box housing. The extendable sleeve can be slidably received within the electrical box housing and the electrical box housing can be received within the plate opening. The extendable sleeve can have a front opening and the electrical box housing can have a front opening. The extendable sleeve can be movable between a retracted position and an extended position.
Claims20
An electrical box assembly for a ceiling, the electrical box assembly comprising:
- an electrical box housing that includes side walls and a back wall with a support loop, the side and back walls defining an interior area for electrical components and a front opening into the interior area opposite the back wall;
- a centerplate including a plate body with a plate opening, the electrical box housing being secured to the centerplate so that the interior area is accessible via the plate opening and the front opening;
- an extendable sleeve slidably received into the interior area of the electrical box housing at the front opening;
- a set of adjustment fasteners engaged with the electrical box housing and the extendable sleeve so that the extendable sleeve is movable along the set of adjustment fasteners between a retracted position and an extended position relative to the electrical box housing;
- a support bracket that extends between a first ceiling member and a second ceiling member of the ceiling, the centerplate being secured to the support bracket to support the electrical box housing relative to the support bracket;
- and
- a support wire secured to the support loop of the electrical box housing to suspend the electrical box housing, so that the support wire and the support bracket collectively support the electrical box housing relative to the ceiling.
A method of installing an electrical box assembly for a ceiling, the method comprising:
- providing an electrical box housing that includes side walls, a back wall with a support loop, an interior area and a front opening into the interior area defined by the side walls and back wall;
- securing a centerplate to a support bracket that extends between a first ceiling member and a second ceiling member, to support the electrical box housing relative to the support bracket, the centerplate including a plate body with a plate opening, and the electrical box housing being secured to the centerplate so that the interior area of the electrical box housing is accessible through both the plate opening and the front opening, with an extendable sleeve slidably received into the interior area of the electrical box housing through the front opening;
- operating a set of adjustment fasteners that are engaged with the electrical box housing and the extendable sleeve to move the extendable sleeve relative to the electrical box housing between a retracted position and an extended position;
- securing a support wire to the support loop of the electrical box housing;
- and
- suspending the electrical box with the support wire, so that the support wire and the support bracket collectively support the electrical box housing.
An electrical box assembly for a ceiling, the electrical box assembly comprising:
- an electrical box housing that defines an interior area for electrical components and a front opening that provides access into the interior area;
- a support bracket that extends between a first ceiling member and a second ceiling member, the electrical box housing being secured to the support bracket between the first and second ceiling members so that the support bracket supports the electrical housing relative to the first and second ceiling members;
- and
- a support wire secured to the electrical box housing so that the support wire suspends the electrical box housing relative to the ceiling.
