Abstract
A shock cooling prevention device is described, comprising a hollow housing that is inserted into the exhaust pipe of an aircraft. The housing is made of a heat-resistant material so that it can be inserted into the exhaust pipe right after the aircraft engine is turned off, preventing cool air from entering the exhaust pipe as the gases within the exhaust system shrink. This prevents shock cooling of the engine and prevents moist air from entering the exhaust system and causing condensation, which can corrode the engine.
Claims16
A shock cooling prevention device for an aircraft, comprising:
- a hollow housing with a cross-section that is configured to fit into an aircraft exhaust pipe in such a way as to prevent air from entering the exhaust pipe, the hollow housing separable into two halves, wherein the first half comprises at least one cutout and the second half does not;
- wherein the first half and the second half are configured to attach to each other;
- a handle non-removably attached to the second half;
- wherein the hollow housing and the handle comprise a heat-resistant material that is heat resistant up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit;
- wherein an interior space of the hollow housing comprises a desiccant pack.
