Methods for coating removal

Abstract

Methods are provided herein for coating removal. In some embodiments, the methods can be used to remove an environmental barrier coating (EBC). The methods of coating removal described herein can be used to remove a coating from a component using chemical digestion of the coating by a liquid reagent in a closed vessel. The chemical digestion is performed in the closed vessel at elevated temperatures and/or elevated pressures. Heat is applied to the closed vessel to achieve elevated temperatures to accelerate the digestion reaction. In some embodiments, heating is accomplished by applying microwave energy to the closed vessel.
