Container lid with scale

A container lid, comprising:

• an upper body with a top surface and a first sidewall extending down from the top surface, the sidewall having outer dimensions;
• a built-in scale mounted in the upper body, the scale including a weighing platform, a display and controls disposed on the top surface of the upper body;
• a lower body with a bottom surface and a second sidewall extending up from the bottom surface, the second sidewall having relatively smaller outer dimensions than the first sidewall and being surrounded by a seal ring adapted to fit snugly inside a container opening to provide an air-tight seal.

The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the protective cover is attached to the upper body with a hinge that allows the protective cover to be selectively flipped open and flipped closed by a user.
