Abstract
The present disclosure concerns a coupling mechanism for detachably attaching two or more utility modules to one another, utility assembles, mobile carriers and other attachable modules and articles.
Claims6
A utility module assembly comprising:
- a first container comprising:
- a first storage compartment;
- a first lower surface;
- a first rear face;
- a first lid pivotally coupled to the first container, wherein the first lid defines a first top surface opposite the first lower surface when the first lid is in a closed position with respect to the first container, wherein the first lid is pivotally coupled to the first container via a rear portion of the first lid being pivotally coupled to the first rear face, wherein the first container defines a first width along a first axis parallel to the first rear face;
- a plurality of ribs extending over one or more depressed surfaces defined by the first lid;
- and
- a latch receptacle extending along a front portion of the first lid opposite the rear portion of the first lid;
- and
- a second container comprising:
- a second storage compartment;
- a second lower surface;
- a second rear face;
- a second lid pivotally coupled to the second container, wherein the second lid defines a second top surface opposite the second lower surface when the second lid is in a closed position with respect to the second container, wherein the second lid is pivotally coupled to the second container via a rear portion of the second lid being pivotally coupled to the second rear face, wherein the second container defines a second width along the first axis that is parallel to the second rear face of the second container, and wherein the second width is approximately one-half the first width;
- a plurality of male couplers extending from the second lower surface, each of the plurality of male couplers comprising at least one tongue configured to engage with a rib of the plurality of ribs, wherein the plurality of male couplers are configured to slidingly engage with the plurality of ribs when the second container slides with respect to the first container;
- and
- a latch configured to interface with the latch receptacle, the interface between the latch receptacle and the latch limiting sliding displacement of the second container with respect to the first container.
