Abstract
A method of preparing a biomaterial includes combining a polymer with a neuro-regenerative agent or immunosuppressive agent, melting the polymer by heating the polymer, while the polymer is within an extruder, to a temperature that is higher than a melting temperature of the polymer, extruding the polymer and the neuro-regenerative agent or immunosuppressive agent to form the biomaterial, and shaping the extruded polymer and the neuro-regenerative agent or immunosuppressive agent, with a shaping device, to a shape having a diameter within a range of about 50 µm to about 600 µm.

A method of preparing a biomaterial, the method comprising:
- combining a polymer with a neuro-regenerative agent or immunosuppressive agent;
- melting the polymer by heating the polymer, while the polymer is within an extruder, to a temperature that is higher than a melting temperature of the polymer;
- extruding the polymer and the neuro-regenerative agent or immunosuppressive agent to form the biomaterial;
- and
- shaping the extruded polymer and the neuro-regenerative agent or immunosuppressive agent, with a shaping device, to a shape having a diameter within a range of about 50 µm to about 600 µm.
A method of preparing a biomaterial, the method comprising:
- combining a polymer with a neuro-regenerative agent or immunosuppressive agent;
- melting the polymer by heating the polymer, while the polymer is within an extruder, to a temperature that is higher than a melting temperature of the polymer;
- extruding the polymer and the neuro-regenerative agent or immunosuppressive agent;
- and
- forming the biomaterial as one or more extruded pellets, rods, springs, or knotted fibers.
A method of preparing a biomaterial, the method comprising:
- combining a polymer with a neuro-regenerative agent or immunosuppressive agent;
- melting the polymer by heating the polymer, while the polymer is within an extruder, to a temperature that is higher than a melting temperature of the polymer;
- extruding the polymer and the neuro-regenerative agent or immunosuppressive agent;
- and
- forming the biomaterial as a sheet.
