Abstract
Devices systems and methods are disclosed. Among other things, the devices systems and methods can facilitate ergonomic gripping of a handle; conform to the shape of a wrist; enhance golf techniques or performance; enhance racket sport technique or performance; protect a head of a user engaged in contact sports or other hazardous activities; identify concussions, in some cases in substantially real time; provide sterilization of garments; control surgical robots; allow for medical treatment of multiple subjects without disrobing; provide biometric or other data; and/or be used to train muscles or body parts for, for example, performing specified tasks using a body part.
Claims20
A handle for a surgical instrument, comprising:
- a plurality of hand-engaging portions configured to position fingers of a user in an ergonomic configuration while grasping the handle;
- and
- a haptic feedback system incorporated in the handle, the haptic feedback system comprising:
- at least one vibrator positioned in or on at least one of the hand-engaging portions and configured to impart vibration to a hand of the user grasping the handle;
- and
- a controller operatively connected to the at least one vibrator and configured to control the at least one vibrator based on a preprogrammed control routine stored in a memory, wherein the preprogrammed control routine is configured to control the at least one vibrator in response to signals received during a surgical procedure.
A surgical system, comprising:
- a surgical robot comprising at least one sensor configured to detect forces imparted on the surgical robot by at least one of tissue or a surgical instrument during a surgical procedure;
- and
- a handle for controlling the surgical robot, the handle comprising:
- a plurality of hand-engaging portions configured to ergonomically position fingers of a user;
- at least one vibrator positioned in or on at least one of the hand-engaging portions;
- and
- a haptic feedback system operatively connected to the at least one sensor of the surgical robot, the haptic feedback system comprising a controller configured to activate the at least one vibrator to impart vibration to the hand of the user in response to signals received from the at least one sensor.
A method of providing haptic feedback during a surgical procedure, the method comprising:
- grasping a handle of a surgical control system with a hand, the handle comprising a plurality of hand-engaging portions having at least one vibrator positioned in or on at least one of the hand-engaging portions;
- performing a surgical task using the handle to control a surgical robot;
- sensing, using at least one sensor mounted on the surgical robot, forces imparted on the surgical robot by at least one of tissue or a surgical instrument during the surgical task;
- and
- activating the at least one vibrator to impart vibration to the hand in response to the sensed forces, wherein the vibration varies in intensity based on the sensed forces.
