A composition comprising a thiol and/or disulfide-modifying agent for use in dissolving and/or inhibiting formation of human transthyretin amyloid, wherein the thiol and/or disulfide-modifying agent is or comprises an amino acid or a peptide provided with at least one thiol group, at least one thioester group, or at least one disulfide group.
A method of dissolving and/or inhibiting formation of human transthyretin amyloid in a patient by administering a composition comprising a thiol and/or disulfide-modifying agent to said patient, which thiol and/or disulfide-modifying agent is or comprises an amino acid or a peptide provided with at least one thiol group, at least one thioester group, or at least one disulfide group.
