Abstract
Methods and systems for preparing an emulsion are provided herein, which include a multiphase system having an organic phase and an aqueous phase, one of which is frozen and subsequently melted in the liquid phase thereby forming the emulsion. Modulation of temperature, surfactant type and/or concentration, and/or velocity are described for modifying emulsion droplet size.
Claims16
A method for preparing an emulsion comprising:
- (a) providing a multiphase system having an organic phase and an aqueous phase, wherein the organic phase and/or the aqueous phase comprises at least one surfactant;
- (b) freezing either the organic phase or the aqueous phase to provide a frozen phase and a liquid phase;
- and
- (c) melting the frozen phase in the liquid phase, thereby preparing an emulsion.
