Expanding wound dressing

Abstract

Embodiments provide self-expanding wound dressings that include an outer layer having a first liquid permeability; an inner pouch positioned within the outer layer, the inner pouch having a second liquid permeability; and a liquid-expandable layer positioned within the inner pouch, wherein the liquid-expandable layer comprises a plurality of liquid-expandable articles, wherein the first liquid permeability is lower than the second liquid permeability. Also provided are methods of treating an individual having a bleeding wound, the methods including applying a self-expanding wound dressing to the wound, as well as methods of manufacturing a wound dressing, the methods including forming an absorbent material into a plurality of liquid-expandable articles, positioning the liquid-expandable layer in an inner pouch, and positioning the inner pouch within an outer layer to form the wound dressing.
