Abstract

A coating remover according to one embodiment includes an optical fiber placement portion on which an optical fiber core including a coating is placed, and which includes a first blade that cuts into the coating; a lid portion openable and closable relative to the optical fiber placement portion and including a second blade that faces the first blade when the lid portion is closed onto the optical fiber placement portion; and a light diffusion portion that irradiates the optical fiber core, which is placed on the optical fiber placement portion, with diffused light. The optical fiber placement portion has a placement surface on which the optical fiber core is placed, and the light diffusion portion irradiates the placement surface obliquely downward with the diffused light.
