Described herein is a detection method for detecting alarm objects (AO) in items of baggage (B), the method including: performing a transmission analysis (TA) on an item of baggage (B), generating a transmission result (TR), segmenting the transmission result (TR) to identify objects (O), generating a simulated simulation detector signal (SDS) for at least one identified object (O), assigning an alarm material (AM) using a diffraction simulation (DS), performing a diffraction analysis (DA) on the item of baggage (B), generating a measurement detector signal (MDS), reconstructing a measurement diffraction result (MDR) from the generated measurement detector signal (MDS), reconstructing a simulation diffraction result (SDR) with the same dimensionality as the measurement diffraction result (MDR) based on the generated simulation detector signal (SDS), comparing the measurement diffraction result (MDR) with the simulation diffraction result (SDR), and outputting a comparison result (CR).
