System and method for online brake pad contact estimation

A method comprising:

• determining, by an electronic control unit (ECU) of an electromechanical brake (EMB) assembly, an online pad contact position between a translatable mechanism and a brake pad assembly of the EMB assembly during a braking cycle of a vehicle on which the EMB is installed, wherein the EMB assembly comprises:
• a brake rotor that rotates with a wheel of a vehicle on which the EMB assembly is installed;
• the brake pad assembly that engages with the brake rotor;
• and
• an actuator assembly comprising a motor and the translatable mechanism, the motor being configured to mechanically move the brake pad assembly toward or away from the brake rotor using the translatable mechanism;
• and
• using, by the ECU, the online pad contact position to adjust a position of the translatable mechanism relative to the brake pad assembly.
