A system for magnetic levitation-based hybrid propulsion, comprising:
- an engine coupled to a shaft, the engine comprising a compressor and a combustor;
- a fan comprising a plurality of rotor blades coupled to the shaft;
- a drive system comprising a rotor coupled with the plurality of rotor blades and a stator to provide power to the rotor.
A method for operating a magnetic levitation-based hybrid propulsion system, the method comprising:
- receiving, by a controller, a command indicating a maneuver of a platform;
- determining, by the controller, at least one operation mode based on the command;
- generating, by the controller, one or more signals based on the at least one operation mode;
- and
- operating at least one of a magnetic levitation-based drive system and a turbine-based engine based on the one or more signals, wherein operating the magnetic levitation-based drive system comprises driving, based on the one or more signals, a plurality of stator magnets of a stator to output one or more magnetic fields that interact with one or more rotor magnets of a rotor to drive a plurality of rotor blades acting as a fan.
A vehicle, comprising:
- a fuselage;
- and
- a propulsion system coupled to the fuselage, the propulsion system comprising:
- an engine coupled to a shaft, the engine comprising a compressor and a combustor;
- a fan comprising a plurality of rotor blades coupled to the shaft;
- and
- a drive system comprising a rotor coupled with the plurality of rotor blades and a stator configured to provide power to the rotor.
