Water-borne coating composition and method for producing coated article

Abstract

Provided is a one-pack type water-borne coating composition that is superior in storage stability and water resistance and can be cured at low temperatures. A water-borne coating composition including an aqueous resin (A) having a hydroxy group and a carboxy group; a hydrophilicized carbodiimide compound (B); and a basic compound (C), wherein the aqueous resin (A) has a glass transition point of 0° C. or more and 20° C. or less, the hydrophilicized carbodiimide compound (B) has, in a molecule, at least one carbodiimide group and a structure resulting from elimination of a hydroxy group from a polyalkylene glycol monoalkyl ether, the water-borne coating composition has a pH of 8.5 or more and less than 10, and the water-borne coating composition contains no polyisocyanate curing agent, or containing less than 1 part by mass of a polyisocyanate curing agent based on 100 parts by mass of a solid content of the water-borne coating composition.
