Abstract
Coating compositions having fire retardance and controlled expansion are disclosed, as are methods for using such compositions and substrates coated with same.
Claims23
A fire retardant coating composition comprising:
- a) a film-forming component;
- b) a phosphate source;
- c) TiO2;
- d) a fire retardant;
- and
- e) a gas source;
- wherein the film-forming component is present in an amount of 10-50 wt %, the phosphate source is present in an amount of 15-50 wt %, TiO2 is present in an amount of 3-20 wt %, the fire retardant is present in an amount of 10-40 wt %, and the gas source is present in amount of 2-20 wt %, where wt % is based on total solid weight of the composition.

The coating, self-supported film and/or sheet of, wherein the coating, film and/or sheet is fire retardant as determined according to the thermal runaway test.
