Abstract
To reduce the risks of catheter associated bloodstream infections (CABSIs), particularly those involving multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs), systems, compositions, products, and methods are disclosed related to reducing infection or the risks of infection associated with implantable medical devices. Such methods include the use of EDTA solutions for the management of implantable medical devices.
Claims20
A method of reducing the risk of a bloodstream infection in a subject comprising:
- removing a first lock solution from an implantable medical device;
- instilling a shock solution into the implantable medical device;
- removing the shock solution from the implantable medical device;
- and
- instilling a second lock solution into the implantable medical device,
- wherein the shock solution comprises ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) and has a pH of at least 0.2 units higher than the first lock solution and the second lock solution.
3 more elements
A method of reducing the risk of a bloodstream infection in a subject comprising:
- removing a first lock solution from an implantable medical device, the first lock solution comprising 4% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) (w/v);
- instilling a shock solution into the implantable medical device;
- removing the shock solution from the implantable medical device;
- and
- instilling a second lock solution into the implantable medical device,
- wherein the shock solution comprises ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) and has a pH of at least 0.2 units higher than the lock solution.
3 more elements
A kit comprising:
- a lock solution comprising 4% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA);
- and
- one or more shock solutions, wherein each of the one or more shock solutions comprises EDTA and has a pH of at least 0.2 units higher than the lock solution.
