Combined breakwater and wave energy converter

A device for converting omni-directional fluid flow to unidirectional flow, the device comprising:

• a plurality of stationary three-dimensional stators arranged about a central rotation chamber wherein a part of adjacent stators forms the wall of the chamber;
• adjacent stators forming at least part of a fluid channel into the central rotation chamber, wherein the channel is funnelled to provide an entrance to the channel that is greater in size than the channel exit into the chamber;
• a rotator provided within the chamber, the rotator and the walls of the chamber being spaced apart by a distance greater than a distance between adjacent stators forming the fluid channel exit into the chamber, the rotator having a central rotatable axle mounted to at least two blades, the rotator having a larger central region tapering to a tip at opposing ends;
• and wherein a path of the channel exit vector is angled with respect to the central axle, being directed towards the blades and a path of the channel entrance vector is a different direction to the path of the channel exit vector, the channel entrance vector being closer to the radial vector of the centre of the central rotation chamber, whereby the device converts omni-directional, non-uniform fluid flow into fluid flow having unidirectional angular velocity in the central rotation chamber.
