An elevator system linear drive includes: a magnetic track having at least one row of permanent magnets each being mounted rotatably about their own axis of rotation in a carrier; a force-transfer member being fixable to one of an elevator shaft and an elevator car with the magnetic track being fixable vice versa, and wherein the permanent magnets in each row are arranged successively in a direction of a displacement axis. The magnetic track and the force-transfer member are displaceable relative to one another in the displacement axis direction and are opposite one another in an overlap region. A permanent magnet located in the overlap region is separated from the force-transfer member opposite it by an air gap. A rotary drive rotates the permanent magnets so that, due to the superposition of the magnetic fields, a traveling field traveling in the displacement axis direction is generated.
