A bed-sensor system monitors the weight-change trend of a person lying in a bed without requiring the person to stand on a scale. One or more weight sensors, such as load cells, are placed under support members of the bed, including at least two sensors at the head side of the bed. A processing module receives sensor signals and performs a calibration process to determine a calibration factor representing a proportion of the person's total weight borne by the head-side sensors. During use, the processing module monitors position-consistency parameters such as left-right weight distribution, determines weight values for the person at multiple time points using the calibration factor, and generates a weight-change trend based on the weight values. The system may perform auto-zero calibration during empty-bed periods, compute reliability metrics, and provide alerts or visualizations of weight-change trends to caregivers via wired or wireless user interfaces.
