Article of footwear incorporating a knitted component

A method of manufacturing a cleated shoe having an upper, the method comprising:

• knitting a first portion of the upper such that the first portion forms an instep area, the first portion comprising an elastic yarn;
• knitting a second portion of the upper such that the second portion forms a portion of at least one of:
• a medial side, a lateral side, a forefoot region, and a heel region of the upper;
• forming a plurality of lace apertures that extend through the upper;
• applying a polymer layer to at least part of the upper, such that the polymer layer forms a boundary demarcating the instep area from the lateral side, the medial side, the forefoot region, and the heel region;
• wherein the instep area continuously extends and is adapted to stretch between the boundary at the medial side and the boundary at the lateral side;
• securing a sole structure comprising a plurality of cleat members to the upper;
• and
• incorporating a lace into the plurality of lace apertures.

A method of manufacturing a cleated shoe having an upper, the method comprising:

• knitting a first portion of the upper such that the first portion forms an instep area;
• forming a second portion of the upper such that the second portion forms a portion of at least one of:
• a medial side, a lateral side, a forefoot region, and a heel region of the upper;
• applying a polymer layer to at least part of the second portion of the upper, such that the polymer layer forms a boundary demarcating the instep area from the lateral side, the medial side, the forefoot region, and the heel region, wherein the first portion of the upper has increased stretch relative to the second portion of the upper;
• and
• wherein the instep area integrally extends and is adapted to stretch laterally between the boundary at the medial side and the boundary at the lateral side;
• securing a sole structure comprising a plurality of cleat members to the upper.
