Image reading apparatus

An image reading apparatus comprising:

• a reading unit including a reader configured to read an image on a medium conveyed in a first direction, and a light transmitting member disposed between the reader and a conveyance path through which the medium passes when the image on the medium is read by the reader;
• and
• a cleaning unit configured to clean the light transmitting member when coming into contact with the light transmitting member and moving on the light transmitting member in a second direction intersecting the first direction, wherein
• the cleaning unit includes a wiping portion configured to come into contact with the light transmitting member,
• the wiping portion is movable in the second direction from a standby position located before start of cleaning to a restriction position where a movement in the second direction is restricted, and
• a range from the standby position to the restriction position for the wiping portion in the second direction is a length including both end portions of a medium having a maximum size in the second direction assumed to be used.
