An adapter coupling for joining a flanged pipe element to a grooved pipe element comprises a plurality of segments attached to one another end to end surrounding a central space. Each segment comprises a flange body, a channel, a gasket positioned in the channel, a key extending toward the central space, and adjustable attachment members for attaching the segments to one another. The key comprises a tip surface and first and second keywalls inclined towards one another. The adapter coupling may be provided in a preassembled state with the gasket supporting the segments in spaced apart relation. A grooved pipe element having a groove with sidewalls oriented at obtuse angles relative to a floor surface is inserted into the central space. As the adjustable attachment members are adjusted, the keywalls engage the groove sidewalls and wedge into the groove, promoting a firm connection and increased joint rigidity.
An adapter coupling for joining a flanged pipe element to a grooved pipe element, said adapter coupling comprising:
An adapter coupling for joining a flanged pipe element to a grooved pipe element, said adapter coupling comprising:
In combination, an adapter coupling and a grooved pipe element, said adapter coupling comprising:
A method of joining a flanged pipe element to a grooved pipe element using an adapter coupling, said adapter coupling comprising a plurality of segments attached to one another end to end in a preassembled state surrounding a central space, each of said segments comprising a flange body, a channel positioned within said flange body, a gasket positioned in said channel, a key positioned on said flange body extending toward said central space, said key comprising a tip surface, a first keywall, and a second keywall, and adjustable attachment members positioned at ends of said segments;
