Method and system of playing video streams according to current orientation of a device's screen

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium carrying instructions of program code for executing a method comprising:

• obtaining a set of first video streams, each first video stream being associated with an intended screen orientation and each first video stream being decoded by a decoder of the device;
• obtaining a set of second video streams from the set of first video streams, each second video stream being a first video stream whose associated intended screen orientation suits the current orientation of the device's screen;
• selecting one second video stream from the set of second video streams based on at least one of device characteristics or decoding preferences;
• and
• playing the selected second video stream.

A video streaming device comprising:

• a screen;
• an orientation sensor intended to obtain a current orientation of the screen and to detect a change of the screen orientation;
• a transceiver configured to receive streamed video segments of video streams;
• and
• a processor configured to:
• obtain a set of first video streams, each first video stream being associated with an intended screen orientation and each first video stream being decoded by a decoder of the device;
• obtain a set of second video streams from the set of first video streams, each second video stream being a first video stream whose associated intended screen orientation suits the current orientation of the screen;
• select one second video stream from the set of second video streams based on at least one of device characteristics or decoding preferences;
• and
• play the selected second video stream.
