Abstract
LED devices are described herein. An LED device includes a light extraction surface, a semiconductor light emitting portion that emits light rays towards the light extraction surface, and at least one bi-convex lens that directs the light rays emitted from the semiconductor light emitting portion such that the light rays exit the light extraction surface in a general direction. The bi-convex lens has a thicker center portion and thinner edge portions surrounding the thicker center portion. The thicker center portion is nearer to the semiconductor light emitting portion than the thinner edge portions.
Claims20
A light emitting diode (LED) device comprising:
- a light extraction surface;
- a semiconductor light emitting portion configured to emit light rays towards the light extraction surface;
- and
- at least one bi-convex lens configured to direct the light rays emitted from the semiconductor light emitting portion such that the light rays exit the light extraction surface in a general direction, wherein the bi-convex lens comprises:
- a thicker center portion, and
- thinner edge portions surrounding the thicker center portion,
- wherein the thicker center portion is nearer to the semiconductor light emitting portion than the thinner edge portions.
