Manufacturing method for a waveguide

A method of manufacturing a waveguide, comprising:

• treating surfaces of a plurality of waveguide plates to form partially reflective or diffractive surfaces;
• bonding the waveguide plates using a first adhesive to form a first block;
• cutting the first block along oblique planes to form waveguide slices including internal optical features;
• forming placeholder slices using a second adhesive that is more susceptible to removal than the first adhesive;
• alternating and bonding the waveguide slices and the placeholder slices to form a composite stack;
• and
• removing the placeholder slices by selectively degrading the second adhesive while maintaining bonding of the waveguide slices via the first adhesive.

A method of manufacturing a waveguide, comprising:

• forming a stack of waveguide elements including:
• bonding a first subset of the waveguide elements using one or more first adhesives that are resistant to at least one of thermal or chemical degradation, and
• bonding a second subset of the waveguide elements using one or more second adhesives that are susceptible to the at least one of thermal or chemical degradation;
• cutting the stack along one or more planes to form a plurality of waveguide structures including embedded optical features;
• and
• selectively removing the second subset of the waveguide elements by applying the at least one of thermal or chemical degradation, while maintaining bonding of the first subset of the waveguide elements.
