Provided is a reciprocating internal combustion engine allowing generated vibration to be easily reduced. The reciprocating internal combustion engine includes a first piston member, a first planetary gear mechanism, a first counterrotating member, a second piston member, a second planetary gear mechanism, a second counterrotating member, an interlocking mechanism, and an output member. The first piston member is connected to the first counterrotating member through the first planetary gear mechanism. The second piston member is connected to the second counterrotating member through the second planetary gear mechanism. The interlocking mechanism causes the first counterrotating member and the second counterrotating member to interlock with each other in such a way that the members rotate at the same speed. The output member rotates in interlocking relation with a rotating member rotating in interlocking relation with a rotating member constituting the interlocking mechanism.
