Abstract
An example sheet piling member includes a polymeric substrate and one or more stiffening cells within the polymeric substrate and extending along the length of the sheet piling member to provide improved stiffness or bending resistance to the sheet piling member. The sheet piling member optionally also includes an adhesion-promoting composition arranged to promote adhesion at an interface between the polymeric substrate and the one or more stiffening cells.
Claims21
A sheet piling member, comprising:
- a polymeric substrate and one or more stiffening cells within the polymeric substrate;
- and
- an adhesion-promoting composition arranged to promote adhesion at an interface between the polymeric substrate and the one or more stiffening cells.
A sheet piling member, comprising:
- an elongated member, the elongated member comprising a polymeric substrate, a cladding formed on the polymeric substrate, and one or more flanges and/or one or more webs;
- and
- one or more stiffening cells embedded within the polymeric substrate and encapsulated by the cladding, the one or more stiffening cells being embedded within the one or more flanges and/or the one or more webs.
A process for manufacturing a sheet piling member comprising a polymeric substrate and at least one stiffening cell within the substrate, the process comprising:
- extruding a substrate material from a substrate extruder through a die;
- extruding a capstock material from a co-extruder through the die;
- and
- extruding a stiffening material from a tri-extruder through the die,
- whereby the stiffening material forms at least one stiffening cell within the substrate of the sheet piling member produced by the process.
