Abstract
A system and method for manufacturing embroidery-based textiles using kirigami-inspired patterns coupled with digital embroidery technologies.
Claims20
A system for manufacturing a three-dimensional (3D) textile structure, comprising:
- a digital embroidery machine configured to stitch a textile into a predefined kirigami-inspired patterns;
- a stabilizer material positioned as a foundation layer for the textile;
- and
- an embroidery design processor configured to generate and optimize stitch paths that enable the textile to transform from a two-dimensional (2D) planar form into a free-standing 3D structure.
1 more element
A method for manufacturing a three-dimensional (3D) textile structure, comprising:
- digitizing a kirigami-inspired pattern into an embroidery design;
- transferring the design to an embroidery machine for stitching a textile onto a stabilizer material and into the embroidery design;
- stitching the textile into the embroidery design;
- dissolving the stabilizer material to form a two-dimensional (2D) planar textile structure;
- and
- forming the 3D textile structure from the 2D planar textile structure.
3 more elements
A wearable product, comprising:
- a textile structure,
- wherein the textile structure comprises a kirigami-inspired stitching pattern;
- wherein the textile structure comprises complex 3D surfaces;
- and
- wherein the textile structure is configured to be wearable internally within a person or on an exterior of a person.
