A liquid crystal polyester capable of forming a film that maintains superior low-dielectric properties and has a low linear expansion coefficient and a small difference in linear expansion coefficient between in-plane and thickness directions; a film including the liquid crystal polyester; and a metal-clad laminate including the film are provided. The liquid crystal polyester includes a linear polyester comprising at least one structural unit (A) selected from the group consisting of an aromatic oxycarbonyl unit, an aromatic dioxy unit, and an aromatic dicarboxy unit, and a cross-linking group (B) introduced into a main chain of the structural unit (A) to link the linear polyester. The cross-linking group (B) is derived from a compound comprising an aromatic ring having an electron-donating substituent and at least two methylol groups bonded to the aromatic ring, or a compound having a nitrogen atom and at least two methylol groups bonded to the nitrogen atom.
