Abstract
A microfabrication foil includes a substantially flat substrate with a surface, a multilayer film consisting of at least three sublayers, and a sacrificial layer positioned between the substrate's surface and the multilayer film. The sacrificial layer is water-soluble or water-swellable, and the adhesion between the sublayers within the multilayer film exceeds the adhesion between the multilayer film and the sacrificial layer. As a result, when the multilayer film contacts water, it separates from the substrate and breaks into multiple microflakes, each still comprising the at least three sublayers.
Claims15
A foil for manufacturing micro flakes, the foil comprising:
- a substantially flat substrate having a surface,
- a multilayer film comprising a stack of at least three sublayers, and
- a sacrificial layer, placed between the surface of the substrate and the multilayer film, wherein
- the sacrificial layer is water soluble or water swellable, and
- an adhesion between the sublayers within the multilayer film is larger than an adhesion between the multilayer film and the sacrificial layer, so that the multilayer film, when getting in contact with water, separates from the substrate and breaks in a plurality of micro flakes which still comprise the at least three sublayers.
