Abstract
The invention relates to a filtration membrane that includes a surface. The surface is covalently coupled to a plurality of zwitterionic molecules that are operable to repel proteins and polypeptides from the membrane. The filtration membrane also includes a plurality of ionic liquids associated with the filtration membrane. The invention also relates to methods of filtering a material by associating the material with said filtration membranes, and methods of making such filtration membranes.
Claims32
A filtration membrane comprising a surface, wherein the surface is covalently coupled to a plurality of zwitterionic molecules, wherein the zwitterionic molecules are operable to repel proteins and polypeptides from the membrane, and wherein the filtration membrane comprises a plurality of ionic liquids associated with the filtration membrane.
A method of filtering a material, said method comprising:
- associating the material with a filtration membrane, wherein the filtration membrane comprises a surface, wherein the surface is covalently coupled to a plurality of zwitterionic molecules, wherein the zwitterionic molecules are operable to repel proteins and polypeptides from the membrane, and wherein the filtration membrane comprises a plurality of ionic liquids associated with the filtration membrane.
A method of modifying a filtration membrane, said method comprising:
- associating a surface of the filtration membrane with zwitterionic molecules, wherein the associating results in the covalent coupling of the zwitterionic molecules with the surface of the filtration membrane, and wherein the filtration membrane comprises a plurality of ionic liquids associated with the filtration membrane.
