Abstract
Devices and methods for monitoring cancerous cells in blood of a patient and removing them are provided wherein the cancerous cells are preloaded with a marker and a magnetic agent. The blood of the patient is withdrawn from the body and treated before being returned to the body while external to the body. Cancerous blood cells are monitored through the marker and removed from the blood using magnetic force.

A method of monitoring cancerous cells in blood of a patient and removing them from the blood comprising:
- preloading the cancerous cells in the blood with a marker and a magnetic agent;
- continuously withdrawing the blood from the patient and returning it to the patient;
- when the blood is withdrawn, streaming the blood onto a tray;
- magnetically forcing the cancerous cells that are preloaded with the magnetic agent to move from the tray towards a magnet placed at a distance from the tray;
- capturing and removing the cancerous cells that are moving towards the magnet by a filter positioned between the magnet and the tray;
- detecting the marker in the cancerous cells and continuously estimating a number of cancerous cells in the blood on the tray;
- determining a threshold;
- and
- stopping the withdrawal of the blood upon passing the threshold.
