Provided herein are compositions, kits, and methods for assessing and monitoring disease stages and phases, predicting the likelihood of disease progression, predicting and monitoring responses to disease therapies, and treating disease conditions.

A method for treating an age-related, neurological, and vascular disease or condition comprising:
- administering to a subject a brain endothelial specific vector, wherein the brain endothelial specific vector encodes a mucin and/or a mucin associated protein.
A method for treating an age-related, neurological, and vascular disease or condition comprising:
- genetically modifying brain endothelial cells to express a mucin and/or a mucin associated protein.
A composition comprising a brain endothelial specific vector comprising a nucleic acid that encodes a mucin associated protein.
