Capacity control for diaphragm compressor

Abstract

According to one aspect, a diaphragm compressor system comprises a diaphragm compressor having a cavity defined therein. The diaphragm compressor includes a diaphragm, a piston, and a hydraulic fluid flow loop containing a hydraulic fluid. The diaphragm is positioned within the cavity to separate a working fluid side from a hydraulic fluid within the cavity. The piston and the hydraulic fluid cause the diaphragm to displace within the cavity as the piston travels. The diaphragm compressor system also includes an actuator coupled to the hydraulic fluid flow loop and drain module. The actuator is further coupled to the drain module and configured to cause a first amount of the hydraulic fluid to be released from the hydraulic fluid flow loop into the drain module. The amount of the hydraulic fluid is released from the hydraulic fluid flow loop to control a capacity of the working fluid side of the cavity.
