System and method for controlling hydrogen stack current and load

A method for controlling a hydrogen production system, the method comprising:

• receiving, at a controller in electrical communication with a hydrogen stack, an indication of a hydrogen load requirement for a downstream hydrogen system receiving a generated hydrogen from the hydrogen stack;
• and
• controlling, based on the indication of the hydrogen load requirement for the downstream hydrogen system, an amount of power supplied to the hydrogen stack,
• wherein an amount of power supplied to the hydrogen stack is directly proportional to a control factor corresponding to a degradation of hydrogen production over time of the hydrogen stack and based on a predetermined historical rate of hydrogen production generated by the hydrogen stack, the control factor causing the hydrogen stack to produce an amount of hydrogen in response to the indication of the received hydrogen load requirement for the downstream hydrogen system.

One or more tangible non-transitory computer-readable storage media storing computer-executable instructions for performing a computer process on a computing system, the computer process comprising:

• receiving an indication of a hydrogen load requirement for a downstream hydrogen system receiving a generated hydrogen from a plurality of hydrogen stacks;
• and
• controlling, based on the indication of the hydrogen load requirement for the downstream hydrogen system, an amount of power supplied to the plurality of hydrogen stacks,
• wherein an amount of power supplied to at least one of the plurality of hydrogen stacks is directly proportional to a control factor corresponding to a degradation of hydrogen production over time of the at least one of the plurality of hydrogen stacks and based on a predetermined historical rate of hydrogen production generated by the at least one of the plurality of hydrogen stacks, the control factor causing the at least one of the plurality of hydrogen stacks to produce an amount of hydrogen in response to the received hydrogen load requirement for the downstream hydrogen system.
