The present invention provides compositions and methods for inhibiting intermediate filament tetramerization and formation.

A method for inhibiting intermediate filament formation, the method comprising administering an inhibitor of the interaction between the anchoring knob domain of a first intermediate filament dimer and the hydrophobic pocket of a second intermediate filament dimer.
A method of treating a disease or disorder associated with intermediate filament formation, the method comprising administering an inhibitor of the interaction between the anchoring knob domain of a first intermediate filament dimer and the hydrophobic pocket of a second intermediate filament dimer.
