Methods and devices for treating primary stenosis, restenosis, and in-stent restenosis in a vessel include a catheter with two or more balloons that applies a dilation force in combination with a thermal ablative energy and, preferably, acoustic pressure, to a diseased vessel segment, resulting in mechanical dilation and thermal ablation of majority of the diseased intima, media, neointima. The balloon is made of a material that can sustain both high dilation pressure and ablation temperatures without affecting its integrity or functionality. A controller controls the delivery of fluid and thermal energy to the balloon. An inner balloon is inflated with a heated liquid solution to deliver the thermal energy, and an outer balloon is inflated and used to apply acoustic pressure to target tissue.
