Treatment Plan Tailoring Based on Plant Growth Assessment

A computer readable storage medium storing computer program instructions for modifying a treatment plan for an autonomous farming machine, the computer program instructions that, when executed, cause one or more processors to perform operations comprising:

• accessing image data of a field captured by one or more detection mechanisms implemented on the autonomous farming machine following a first treatment action of a treatment plan in a first region of a plurality of regions;
• generating a field map as a two-dimensional representation of the field based on the image data and comprising positions of plants in the field;
• identifying rows of plants from the field map aligned to the positions of the plants in the field map;
• clustering plants along each row of plants into one or more clusters of plants;
• determining a stand count for each cluster indicating a number of stand in the cluster;
• determining post-treatment plant growth at a first region of the field based on the one or more stand counts for the one or more clusters of plants in the first region of the field, wherein the post-treatment plant growth is assessed following the first treatment action performed by the farming machine at the first region of the field;
• determining an effect of the first treatment action in the first region based on the plant growth at the first region;
• and
• modifying the treatment plan based on the effect of the first treatment action in the first region.

An autonomous farming machine configured to modify a treatment plan, the system comprising:

• a treatment mechanism configured to apply one or more treatment actions to plants in a field;
• one or more processors;
• and
• a computer readable storage medium storing computer program instructions that, when executed by, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
• accessing image data of the field captured by one or more detection mechanisms implemented on the autonomous farming machine following a first treatment action in the treatment plan;
• generating a field map as a two-dimensional representation of the field based on the image data and comprising positions of plants in the field;
• identifying rows of plants from the field map aligned to the positions of the plants in the field map;
• clustering plants along each row of plants into one or more clusters of plants;
• determining a stand count for each cluster indicating a number of stand in the cluster;
• determining post-treatment plant growth at a first region of the field based on the one or more stand counts for the one or more clusters of plants in the first region of the field, wherein the post-treatment plant growth is assessed following the first treatment action performed by the farming machine at the first region of the field;
• determining an effect of the first treatment action based on the plant growth at the first region;
• and
• modifying the treatment plan based on the effect of the first treatment action in the first region.
